Frequently Asked Questions

DNS propagation is the time until a record change (such as a new hosting IP) is visible across the internet. The change applies to your nameservers instantly; what you wait for is other resolvers holding the old cache until its TTL expires.

It depends on the old record TTL. A TTL of 300 means about 5 minutes at most, while 86400 can take up to 24 hours. Nameserver changes at the registrar can take 24–48 hours. Tip: lower the TTL a day before moving hosting.

Each resolver keeps its own cache. A resolver that looked up the record before your change keeps the old value until the TTL expires. The TTL left column shows when that cache expires.

The DNS server holding your domain original data (for example Cloudflare or your hosting provider). Its value is always current, so we use it as the reference for other resolvers.
